Back Beach in Port Chalmers is a small, quiet harbour-side area that serves as the Port to Port ferry’s wharf location, with boarding taking place from a simple floating pontoon near the boat ramp and yacht club. Rather than a formal terminal, the wharf blends into the natural shoreline, with a low stone edge, calm harbour waters, and open views across Otago Harbour toward Quarantine Island and the Otago Peninsula. The area has an informal, local feel, where cyclists, walkers, and ferry passengers gather at water level to board the boat, making it a relaxed and scenic departure point for Port to Port crossings.
